# Home and portfolio

Home is where you switch accounts and networks, see portfolio state, and start
wallet actions.

## Public and Private modes

On Chromium, the mode switch changes between:

* **Public**: the selected account's normal onchain portfolio, positions, and
  Activity.
* **Private**: WalletChan's wallet-wide Shielded ETH balance and private
Activity. This balance is not owned by whichever public account happens to
  be selected.

Private mode is unavailable on Firefox. Learn more in
[Privacy Shield](/privacy/shield).

## Portfolio value and chart

WalletChan shows the total known USD value and an eight-day chart. Hover or
focus chart points for historical values. Select the visibility control to hide
amounts without changing balances.

The first paint may use cached portfolio data while WalletChan verifies current
onchain balances. If a portfolio provider is unavailable, balances can still
load while prices or DeFi positions remain incomplete.

## Assets

The Assets tab includes native currency, ERC-20s, recently received tokens,
custom tokens, and Shielded ETH where relevant.

* Search by token name or symbol.
* Filter one network or show all.
* Expand **Low-value assets**.
* Select an asset to start Send; the Swap shortcut preserves that asset.
* Enable **Unify balances** to group canonical ETH, USDC, and USDT across
  networks.
* Enable **Follow dapp network** so Assets and Activity follow the connected
tab's chain until you manually choose another filter.

## Positions

The Positions tab shows supported DeFi positions. An empty Positions tab can
mean the account has no detected positions or the data source is temporarily
unavailable; it does not move or change your positions.

## Activity

Activity is scoped to the selected account and network filter in Public mode.
Private mode uses a separate privacy ledger. See
[Activity and receipts](/wallet/activity).

## Home actions

Depending on account and mode, the main actions are **Send**, **Swap**,
**Shield**, and **More**. More includes WCHAN staking, Address book, Connected
dapps, WalletConnect, WalletChan Browser on Chromium, and an external
revoke.cash shortcut.

Safe accounts replace direct execution with proposal-aware actions and do not
offer Shield. View-only accounts cannot sign.

## Alerts and stale data

Home can show a failed transaction, RPC delay/stale-balance warning, Safe
attention notice, pending dapp connection, or reload-required alert. An RPC
warning links directly to the relevant endpoint settings.
